About

“What’s this crap all about?”

That’s a very good question. Oh, you actually want me to answer it? Well that’s a little more work than I was looking forward to, but I suppose I can indulge you.

The History:
Once upon a time, some jerk on the internet wanted a webpage for no particular reason. He got a hosting plan and a domain name, and then promptly lost interest in the whole affair. That can sometimes happen when doing things for no particular reason. This guy at least had the good sense to pick a cool name–Electrophantasia. A combination of electronics and fantasy with a slight twist on spelling inspired by the book The Neverending Story. What most people know as Fantasia was, in the original German, known as Phantasien. Liking the idea of phantoms and ghosts blended with the electronics and fantasy motifs, he registered the domain.

Fast forward a year or two and this same jerk is still on the internet, and boy is he mad about it. Over the past few months a strange sort of quiet rage has built up towards all of humanity, and a general frustration is brought to the surface over the content available on the devil’s network. While attempting to destroy the wall next to his computer desk with a fist, the internet jerk realized what he must do. There must be more positive force brought to the internet, or all of humanity would be doomed. A Crusade was born.

Goal:
The above story (told for no particular reason in the third person) explains the why, but not so much the what. I’m an absolute media junkie. Books, music, film, video games–I love them all deeply. These days with the internet and digital media, there’s never been a better time to be a fan of these things. I want to make a website that encompasses it all, and I want to do so from a slightly different angle than I’m used to seeing. Journalism usually has to be current, always focused on the present moment. Sometimes things get missed because of this. I want to give a home to old, forgotten random things. Reviewing tends to tie everything down to a critique and a numerical or other representation of worth. I want to avoid that too, in some ways. Sometimes things that are bad, or far less than perfect are still worth spending a lot of time talking about.

In a way you might say this is a fansite dedicated to all of media. There are no boundaries here. No console wars. This wonderful world of creativity is too great to worry about all that petty stuff. I just want to spontaneously take you on in-depth looks at things you might not expect. I can only hope I’m successful in my craziness.

“And now for something completely different.” -Monty Python
